This Privacy Policy explains how Marketscrow (“Marketscrow”, “we”) collects, uses, stores, and shares personal data when you use our website and services in Nigeria. By using Marketscrow, you consent to the practices described here, subject to applicable law including the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) where it applies.

1. Data we collect

• Account: phone number, username, name, account type, profile photo, referral code
• Location: state, LGA, coordinates, geohash, and location label for nearby discovery
• Marketplace activity: listings, bids, orders, wallet balance and ledger entries
• Communications: order chat, dispute messages, and support interactions on the platform
• KYC (optional): legal name, date of birth, ID documents when you apply for verification
• Technical: device tokens for push notifications, session data, security logs, and IP address
• Payments: transaction references from Paystack and related payment metadata (we do not store full card numbers)

2. How we use data

• Authenticate you via phone OTP and maintain your account
• Match buyers and sellers, show nearby listings, and process escrow payments
• Operate order and dispute chat, including admin review when disputes are opened
• Prevent fraud, enforce our Terms, and improve platform safety
• Send transactional notifications (order updates, dispute status, etc.)
• Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests

3. Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:

• Counterparties: buyers and sellers see profile and order information needed to complete a deal
• Payment processors: e.g. Paystack, to fund wallets and settle payouts
• Service providers: hosting, SMS/OTP delivery, push notification services under contract
• Authorities: when required by law or to protect users and the platform

4. Chat & dispute records

Messages sent through order and dispute chat are stored on our servers. When a dispute is opened, authorised administrators may read chat history and evidence to resolve the case. Do not share sensitive information unrelated to the transaction.

5. Retention

We retain account and transaction records while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for legal, tax, and dispute purposes. Chat logs and order history may be kept to support escrow audits and fraud investigations.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure — report suspected breaches via Contact support.

7. Your rights

Depending on applicable law, you may request to:

• Access or correct personal data in your profile and settings
• Delete your account (subject to outstanding orders, escrow, or legal holds)
• Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
• Lodge a complaint with a relevant data protection authority

8. Cookies & sessions

We use session cookies to keep you signed in and remember preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on core marketplace flows.

9. Children

Marketscrow is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
